This city dates back to the mid 12th  century and in this beautiful city near the Wadden Sea offers a lot of activities for you: strawling down the cozy streets in Tonder, going to the long white sandbeaches of the island Romo, enjoying the beatiful flat landscape or visiting the small city Mogeltonder with the royal castle Schackenborg.

From a design point of view Tonder is very insteresting since it was here danish design grand old man Hans J Wegner started his famous career. As a young man he made his apprentenceship at the local cabinetmaker Stahlberg and discoved his love for wood.

In 1995 Wegner donated the permanent exhibition with 36 of his best chairs to the Museum of Tonder. The chairs are being displayed in the Lighthouse of the museum from where there is a wonderful view over this lovely part of Denmark.

For more info about the museum you can check it here

For retro and vintage fans Tonder has some great shopping spots – in the city center you’ll find Retro-60. This little shop has a big range of teak furnitures, mid century lighting and cool home decor all in the contemporary sense. The owner of the shop also has a shop – Hojer Antik & Livsstil – in the near by town Hojer. You can check both shops here

Another amazing place is the large house situated on Mellemgade in Tonder. There is a sign saying “Antik” and in the 600 m2 large building all sorts of treasures are hidden. The friendly owner Karlo has collected these goodies and is open for a good bargain. You can see more here

He has a compagnon who has a shop outside Tonder – in the nearby Vennemose. Here you can find antiques and retro beautifully displayed in the lovely danish house. Cupboards from nearby mansions, beautiful lighting and retro dresses are to be found here. The adress is Vennemose Antik, Høgslundvej 2, Vennemose 6270 Tonder.

All in all Tonder is a great place for vintage shopping and don’t forget to stop and have a cup of coffee in some of the small cosy cafés in the city.
